Under the auspices of His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the Emir of the State of Qatar, will host the Global Dryland Alliance (GDA) Founding Conference from October 14-16, 2017 at the Sheraton Doha. Delegations joining from 25 countries and international organizations from the Middle East, North Africa, Sahel, Central Africa, Central and East Asia, and South America will attend the conference.
Food security is a growing challenge to most countries found on dryland areas. Drylands are home to nearly 2 billion people and cover over 40 percent of the world’s land surface. Dryland countries are extremely vulnerable to the adverse consequences of climate variability and change, which can have a devastating environmental impact on soil, water and biodiversity.
